Micah 4 (2) And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Zephaniah 3 (9) For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent. (14) Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. (17) The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy ... KJV

Generations of 40 years:
Israel was 40 years in the wilderness; those who rejected the Word of the LORD died in the wandering, never seeing that Promised Land. Those who were 19 years and younger were not responsible for the wandering and God allowed them to enter in ... Michael entered in when he became 19 years of age ~ Sunday 29 July 2007 was the beginning of his journey to the Holy Land.

When Israel had been a Nation for 19 years, she fought and the LORD won the 1967 Six Day War in June. Michael's grandma, Marnie (at age 36), toured Israel that September and saw the wreckage of a war-scarred land. 40 years after the Six Day War and her visit, her grandson went to Israel, preparing for his life's work as Messiah's return into human history approaches ~ when the LORD shall dwell in Zion!

When Israel was 40 years old, Michael Christopher was born, named by his earthly father, 'Who is like God? the Christ-bearer.' When Michael ~ the Christ-bearer for the Living God ~ was 19 years old, he lived and learned among the Jewish people in the Promised Land, knowing who Israel's Messiah is: the Jewish Saviour hidden from His brethren in a Gentile 'guise' just as Joseph, ruler in Egypt, was 'hidden' from and unrecognized by his brothers long ago.

Journey to Jerusalem:
Following in his grandma's footsteps, Michael set out on an adventure of a lifetime ... on a lifetime adventure! His dream of going to the 'Land of the Bible' has changed his life and called him far from his family and home in Idaho. His traveling experiences had taken him on the roadways as far as the southern border of California, to the Pacific coast of the northwest, almost to the northwest border of Canada near Alaska, in the airways across the country to the Atlantic coast and Gulf coast states, across the Pacific Ocean to the Hawaiian Island of Oahu ~ but never out of the culture of North America. What would draw him half way around the globe, to a piece of the map that is war-torn and surrounded by less-than-friendly neighbors, to a people who in May 2008 celebrate their 60th year as a Nation in the Land and the 40th year of a united Jerusalem, yet they have existed as a Nation and a People for thousands of years?

... what was the call that Michael heard?
'Come to the Land and live with the People that I have chosen as My Own!'
O, Jerusalem!

Hebrew University of Jerusalem:
Learning the Hebrew language had been Michael's dream since he was 15 years old. He began learning the alephbet on his own and listened to the Internet teaching tools to learn the sounds. But this is not the way to learn a language or become familiar with a culture ... one must go and be with the people, be a part of their culture, to gain an understanding and affinity with them. So began his journey: he applied to the University in the heart of Israel ~ the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Rothberg International School of language arts. Through summer courses called ULPANs and semester courses, he has progressed from the first to the fourth of six levels of instruction. Each final exam has rewarded a diligent student; his grasp of the language continues to improve and his careful attention to the spoken tongue is the surest teacher.

Meeting in this Place:
The experiences of living half a world away from the home of his childhood were amazingly interspersed by meetings with those he knows from other times and places. Threads of a tapestry are woven by our lives, the threads of one life interweaving with many others! The 1st of 3 'meetings in this Place' was in and of itself 3 sets of 3's. The 2nd was a sequel to an amazing wonder that only the LORD, for His pleasure, could have 'brought forth'. The 3rd was unlikely and beyond what we would call 'coincidence' as only our limited understanding can explain. Many other meetings and friendships have been enjoyed throughout his experiences in Israel ... come and visit Michael's Jerusalem Journals to see what he has seen in the places where he has been!

Returning Home:
Having completed a year of studies in Israel, in the classroom and on the open stage of history, Michael knew it was time to return to the studies begun at the university in Idaho. In a very real sense, all of his interests and studies are of 'languages' whether of Hebrew, English, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Sciences, Engineering; all are tools to create and communicate. After he made the decision to return home, his mom and grandma watched a program about ISRAEL; at the end they discussed the possibility that he would 'go back' to complete what he had started, just as he was by coming back to Idaho. As these words were spoken, the voice of the program echoed "Go Back"! Because the LORD prepared the way, Michael's returning home was the 3rd of 3 returns to the same area of Idaho from the other side of the world in Jerusalem Israel. Ecclesiastes 3 (1) To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven ...

The fruit of Michael's labors in learning the Hebrew language were seen in a transcript of his grades received in early September. He entered the 1st of 6 levels in late summer 2007 ~ advanced beginner Level Aleph 90% (A). The Fall semester he entered Level Bet 91% (A). Spring 2008 semester he began Level Gimel 97% (A+) and in early summer 2008 he almost completed Level Dalet 96% (A+). He earned 15 credits for these language courses; while not applying to a degree, the credits contribute to his overall standing. Michael is accomplished enough to speak, read, and write modern Hebrew. He is maintaining his skills by reading the Bible in Hebrew ~ perhaps a language as old as time!
