Subject: Living in Jerusalem
Shalom,
The weather is cooler today because it has been windy all day. It tends to be windy in the morning and evening. The wind is very nice because it cools off quickly at night. The building that I live in has ten floors, I live on the sixth floor. Yesterday the power went out in our suite. The problem was the air conditioner. Thank God that we don't need it with this weather.
I love being over here and I am learning a lot. Ulpan is going by very fast, we have about two weeks left. I need to turn in the application for the fall semester next week. The main stay of my diet over here is bread, humus, peanut butter, and cheese with vegetable sandwiches from the University "cafeterias". Fresh fruit is pretty inexpensive out here. When I go to the old city I usually eat falafel for six shekels. There is also a place that sells very good Iraqi pitas for a shekel and a half. Half of which can do for a meal. It is about a forty minute walk to the old city from the dorms. I went to a Messianic congregation's Shabbat service last week. It was all in Hebrew. The people were friendly. I would like to go back there tomorrow.

Subject: Trip to Cairo
Shalom,
This week is short because of the Jewish New Year. Last day of class is Tuesday. A number of people are planning on going to Cairo. I have reservations as well. I think five of us are planning on going. The bus trip from Jerusalem to Eilat in southern Israel is 110 Shekels round trip. From there to Cairo I don't know how much it will cost. A number of people are also planning to go to Petra in Jordan after Hebrew Ulpan ends. I want to see Petra as well. The Summer Ulpan is almost over, just a little over a week left. It has gone by very fast.

Shalom,
We are scheduled to leave tomorrow morning at 10:00. I think we are planning on a four day trip. I would definitely like to climb the great pyramid.
