Subject: Shalom from Cairo
Shalom from Cairo, Egypt!
God has been watching over us and we are doing well. Today we visited the Egyptian Museum, the Saladin Citadel, ate at a cafeteria in one of the Hiltons, and took a boat ride on the Nile at sunset.
We arrived very late last night, so this was our first full day in Cairo. It also happened to be Rosh HaShanna (the Jewish New Year), and the first day of the Muslim's month of fasting (during the day, that is) called Ramadan. For Rosh haShanna there was a small celebration at the dorms with traditional food and blowing of the shofar. Some traditional foods for that feast day are apples dipped in honey and also pomegranates.
Hope you all are well, Michael

Subject: Break travel plans
Trips into the West Bank are fairly common, we drove through it on our way to and from Egypt, also when we visited Masada. I may want to go to Bethlehem at some point, which is in the West Bank also. I have no desire whatsoever to see anything in Gaza. We may take a trip into Jordan to see Petra over the break.
Shalom, Michael
