Subject: Shrine of the Book

It is nearing the end of the semester; the Friday after next is the final exam. The day before that my class will also have an oral exam. It is amazing that I have already been in Israel for five and a half months.

On Tuesday I visited the Shrine of the Book for the first time. I happened to be there for a tour of the shrine in English. The symbolic architecture was very interesting. For example, the white dome represents the lids of the jars that the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in. Also, the hall leading into the shrine was made to look like a cave to represent the Qumran Caves. The handwriting on the Isaiah scroll was hard to read, but the handwriting in the Aleppo Codex was so clear that it looked like the print in books. It was a great blessing to actually see some of the things that I had heard so much about.

I hope all is well,

PS: I also saw the Holyland Model of ancient Jerusalem which was next to the Shrine of the Book.
