m. 1843 Dec 14 Thu ~ by License ~ Reverand Ambrose Sherwin
All Saints Parish Church, Parish of Tullylish, County Down
Thomas Rennix of Bleary & Mary Hampton of Tullylish
according to rites of the Church of Ireland (No 156)
In the presence of: John McKelvey - Glasgow?
The original Parish registers recorded the events of Marriages, Baptisms, and Burials of residents by the Vicar or the Curate. A copy of each register was provided to the Bishop, called the Bishop's Transcript. The handwriting of the Vicar, Charles Allsoppe (1777-1831), was clarified by the handwriting in the marriage transcript, assumed to be by the Curate, John Goodacre. The signatures of William Bullers and Elizabeth Blake were indicated by 'His X Mark' and 'Her X Mark' as they would have inscribed the X's within their written names, both being unable to write a signature for themselves. The 'consent of parents' may have included the parents of both or only those of the bride.
'Marriage by banns' was the most common means of marriage within the church, as a license was obtained by a required fee. Both parties to this marriage were of the same or "this" Parish; the banns would have been read to the congregation on three consecutive Sundays prior to the ceremony.
